T-40 CB model mast removal. Anyone do this ?
Anthony Schweiker

Hello fellow Tartan owners.. This fall (2024) before haulout I want to remove the mast for servicing a few things up top. I prepped and removed the boom etc. and realized the centerboard pennant line runs through the base of the mast and down through to the bilge through a double clamped hose and disappears under the floor. I believe we are under the waterline here .

The mast can only be removed while the boat is in water. I prefer to have the centerboard up. I'd like to replace the control line (pennant) while doing all this as a precaution. I'm at a do it your self YC and have plenty of help, however with a 60 foot spar; caution is the by-word! Any experience and advice would be helpful.

I have had the mast removed 2x on my T40 Living Proof (hull 26 - I think). Each time before haulout the rigger put a line under the boat from port midship to sb midship to hold up the CB. I have not been present when the mast was removed. After purchasing the boat in 2018 the CB pendant was replaced. Unfortunately I cannot provide any more info.
