T40 air draft
Carter Brey

Greetings,

I'm a new member of this group, not yet an owner but considering the purchase of a T40.

I've been unable to find the air draft of this vessel and am wondering if anyone happens to know. The "I" dimension is 51' and I'm guestimating air draft at around 60' with VHF antenna but I would love more precise data.

Thank you so much,

Carter Brey

Hi Carter,

I have hull #61 and I have gathered lots of info, so here goes:

  • DWL - 4’9”
  • Your I measurement of 51’

This would bring your air draft closer to 56’ plus antennas and other gear you might have at the top of your spar!

I made a point of figuring this out as my intent is to take her south if at all possible. Little did I know that I had a tall rig and not a standard rig on my boat! Brings me closer to 58’ plus or minus, then I add 2.5’ for my masthead gear. By adding a foot of clearance height as a safety factor, this brings me to an air draft of closer to 62.5’!!!

Not ideal for ICW travel but with good planning still doable.

Let me know if you want electronic copy of the sail plan and hull drawing.

Regards

Hello, Denise,

Thank you so much for this. I'm surprised that the DWL is not higher.

That gives me more breathing room than I anticipated. I was

also surprised to learn that the T40 had a tall mast option.

Same plan here to take some ICW option on the way south, hence

my question. The Scheel keel takes care of the bottom side of

the equation.
