Cutlass bearing, Tartan 30
Author Last Post

Sorry to say, our experience was not like yours. Price to replace cutlass bearing:

Labor: $770

Parts $79.99

Total $849.99

But that's not all:

Straighten shaft and polish prop:

Labor total: $165

Sublet total: $300

Total: $465

So the total bill was @1,314.99.

Again, wish I lived closer to Illinois!

Wish we were closer to Illinois. Our Rhode Island estimate is three times that...Hoping they like to estimate on the high side. At any rate, sounds like you got a good deal. Will post results of our experience when work is complete. Thank you for your reply.

I own a Tartan 33R. I just had the propeller reconditioned and the cutlass bearing replaced. My labor cost may have been less since the propeller was off. Here is what I paid a Marina in Illinois to do the work:

10.1-CUTLASS BEARING

Description: Remove and replace cutlass bearing

Resolution: Replaced

Part # Qty Description Price Discount Total

87-BONITO 1.00 BJ BEARING BONITO $56.76

 Parts

Parts Subtotal $56.76

Labor Subtotal $260.00

Total $316.75

I know it is not "apples to apples" but I hope it helps.

Has anyone had experience replacing the cutlass bearing in a Tartan 30? Our West Wind has original Atomic 4. Any information on providers in Rhode Island, what cost range to expect, and potential problem areas would be much appreciated.
