Sump box on T372
Author Last Post

The locker drains overboard at the bottom of the locker. The bottom of the sump is bedded in silicone and is easy enough to cut through the silicone and inspect the keel bolts.

John,

How is the false floor sealed? I think I will tab mine with flanges if possible and some type of sealer. Also if yours has a chain locker where does it drain?

My 3800 has the same arrangement. The refer and shower have "grey" water that should be kept out of the bilge. The bilge should only have water from tank overflow or rain water down the mast and should only be clean fresh water. Same for a leak in a water tank draining into the bilge. Easy check for a leak is to taste the bilge water (at least if the boat is in salt water). Good reason to keep the bilge clean.

While doing some keel bolt inspections I noticed that there was a false bottom in my sump box. The false bottom was covering the center three keel bolts. Is that common for Tartans? My anchor locker drains into the bilge along with my vent for my fwd water tank. Should anything that drains go to the sump box or allow that water to go to bilge even if it is a small amount? I would think that all liquids should be directed to sump. Only thing that is draining to the sump box is reefer and shower drain. Everything else has it’s own through hull.
